Bettys and Taylors Group, which owns and runs an impressive range of specialty foods shops, online stores, multiple Cafe Tea Rooms, a Craft Bakery, Cookery School, AND blends the third best selling tea in the UK, has announced that their website, Bettys.co.uk has suffered a data breach.
The company discovered the breach on May 8th of this year. They found that their database had been breached, and that customer information had been copied. According to their online statement, the breach had to do with a third-party software they were using, and “was a result of the industry-wide software weakness”.
All registered customers of Bettys.co.uk, which number at about 122,000, have been affected. Stolen information includes names, email addresses, encrypted passwords, telephone numbers, and postal addresses. They do stress that no credit or debit card details were copied, since that information is in a completely different database.
They are currently contacting all affected customers, and asking that they change their password on the Betty site, and any other sites that may have the same password. They also are letting them know that if they receive any calls from a supposed Betty employee, to ignore it. They will not be contacting anyone and asking for their financial information, so do not give it out! This really should go for anyone EVER calling and asking for financial information.
